Trà n Anh Hùng’un yeni filmi Şeflerin Aşkı duyulara hitap eden sinemanın harika bir örneği. Neredeyse tamamı ya mutfak tezgâhında yemek yapma ya da yemek sofrasında bir ritüeli andıran sunum sahnelerinden oluşan film, görüntü ve ses aracılığıyla seyirciyi de bu deneyimlere ortak ediyor. Tarifleri uzun uzadıya paylaşılan, yapımına ve tüketilmesine detaylı şekilde tanıklık ettiğimiz birbirinden harika yemekler aklımızı başımızdan alıyor. Ancak iştah kabartan bu yemek görüntülerinin ardında kadınların toplumdaki yerine ve sınıfa değin etkileyici bir aşk hikâyesi de var. Juliette Binoche’un canlandırdığı müthiş yetenekli aşçı ve yıllardır himayesinde yemek pişirdiği Benoît Magimel’in canlandırdığı gurme, mutfağa dair tutkuları yanı sıra büyük bir sevgiyi de paylaşıyorlar. Aşçının yeteneği ve gurmenin bilgeliği bir şekilde onları 19. yüzyılın toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine rağmen eşitliyor, hem yakın hem de uzak kılıyor... Yeşil Papayanın Kokusu ve Bisikletçi ile tanıdığımız Vietnam asıllı Fransız yönetmen Trà n Anh Hùng, Şeflerin Aşkı ile yedi yıl sonra müthiş bir geri dönüş yaptı.
Trà n Anh Hùng's new feature film The Taste of Things is a great example of ‘cinema of senses’. The scenes in the film are almost entirely of cooking in the kitchen or presentations at the dinner table, reminiscent of a ritual. The film engages the audience in these experiences through image and sound. The comprehensive recipes of the beautiful dishes, the detailed preparations and finally, the consumption are mind-blowing. Behind these appetising scenes is a poignant love story that addresses class and the place of women in society. The incredibly talented cook, played by Juliette Binoche, has been cooking for the gourmet, played by Benoît Magimel, for years. A passion for gastronomy is not all they share; there also is a profound love. The talent of the cook and the wisdom of the gourmet somehow equate them despite the gender roles of the 19th century, making them both intimate and distant... Vietnamese-born French director Trà n Anh Hùng, known for The Smell of Green Papaya and Cyclo, made a huge comeback with The Taste of Things after seven years.
