Jean-Luc Godard’ın en meşhur filmlerinden Nefret, Alberto Moravia’nın aynı adlı romanından serbest bir uyarlamadır. Michel Piccoli’nin canlandırdığı yazar karakteri, Fritz Lang’ın yönettiği ama yapımcıların memnuniyetsizliği nedeniyle çekimleri durdurulan bir Odysseia uyarlamasına ek sahne yazmak üzere çağırılır. Kaba saba Amerikalı yapımcının (Jack Palance) talepleri, yazarın karısı Camille’le (Brigitte Bardot) ilişkisinde ciddi bir sarsıntıya yol açar.
Filmde Fritz Lang’ın asistanı rolünde de gözüken Godard, hem para ve sanat paralelinde aşk ve aşkın bitişi temalarını ele alır hem de Nefret’i çekerken çatışma yaşadığı yapımcılara ve ticari sinemaya nefretini açıkça dile getirir. Geçtiğimiz yıl 91 yaşında hayata veda eden Godard’ı Fransız Kültür Merkezi ve Sinematek/ Sinema Evi işbirliğiyle gerçekleşecek bu gösterimle anıyoruz.
Contempt is one of Jean-Luc Godard's most famous films based on Alberto Moravia's novel A Ghost at Noon. The novel is about the existential problems of a writer who believes he must live a life of luxury in order to hold on to his young and beautiful wife and therefore writes screenplays for movies he despises. In the film, the author, played by Michel Piccoli, is invited to write extra scenes for a Fritz Lang adaptation of the Odyssey, which was stopped by dissatisfied producers. The demands of the rude American producer (Jack Palance) put considerable stress on the writer's relationship with his wife, Camille (Brigitte Bardot).
Godard, who appears in the film as Fritz Lang's assistant, deals with the themes of falling in and out of love in conjunction with money and art, and openly expresses his hatred for the producers and commercial cinema he confronted while shooting Contempt. We commemorate Godard, who passed away last year at the age of 91, with this screening in cooperation with Institut Français and Sinematek/Sinema Evi.
