Ünlü sinema eleştirmeni ve kuramcı André Bazin, Cahiers du cinéma için yazdığı bir makalede Jacques Tati’nin yönettiği Bay Hulot’nun Tatili’ni “Marx Kardeşler’den bu yana komedi sinemasındaki en radikal buluş” olarak niteler ve “olağanüstü bir başyapıt” diye tanımlar. Tati, daha önce çektiği kısa ve uzun metraj filmlerinde ilk denemelerini yaptığı mizah anlayışını burada kusursuz hâle getirmiştir. Chaplin ve özellikle Buster Keaton’ın fiziksel komedisinden etkilendiği aşikârdır ama Tati mizansenin başlı başına bir mizah unsuru olabileceği fikrini en çok zorlamış, filmlerini tasarım üzerine inşa etmiş yönetmenlerden biridir. Diğer yandan, bu ikinci uzun metrajlı filmi, Tati ile özdeşleşmiş Bay Hulot karakterinin de ilk kez ortaya çıkışıdır. Klasik anlamda bir hikâye yapısına sahip olmayan film, Bay Hulot’nun sahil kıyısındaki Saint-Marc-sur-Mer kasabasında bir otele yerleşmesi ve yaptığı bir dizi sakarlıkla otelin diğer sakinlerinin tatilini mahvetmesini konu alır. Kaos nadiren bu kadar eğlenceli olmuştur.
Ülkemizde geçtiğimiz ay yeniden gösterime giren bu komedi klasiğini restore edilmiş kopyasından gösteriyoruz.
In his review of Jacques Tati’s Monsieur Hulot's Holiday for Cahiers du cinéma, famous film critic and theorist André Bazin wrote, “the most radical innovation in comic cinema since the Marx Brothers”, praising it as an “extraordinary masterpiece”. Following his first attempts at short and feature films, Tati has perfected his sense of humour in this film. It is obvious that he was influenced by the physical comedy of Chaplin and especially Buster Keaton, but for Tati the mise-en-scène has always been an element of humour in itself and he was a director who constructed his films on design. On the other hand, his second feature film is also the first appearance of the Monsieur Hulot character identified with Tati. Contradicting the conventional storyline structure, the film is about Hulot staying in a hotel in the seaside town of Saint-Marc-sur-Mer and ruining the vacation of the other guests with his clumsiness. Chaos is rarely this much fun.
The festival will be screening a restored version of this comedy classic, which was re-released in Turkey last month.
