Güncel sanatla uğraşan Thomas’ın işleri gittikçe daha çok ilgi çekmeye başlar. Bir kafede çalışan kız arkadaşı Signe bu ilginin yönünü kendine doğru çevirmeye kararlıdır. Bu nedenle kendi kendini hasta etmek üzere ilaçlar alır, bedeninde birtakım arızaların ortaya çıkmasına aldırmaz. Nihayet ilginin odağına kendisi yerleşir, ama bu sefer de Thomas Signe’yle rekabete girebileceği hiçbir fırsatı kaçırmamaya başlar. Kendine hayran insanlarla hem inceden hem de kaba şekilde dalga geçen İlgi Manyağı bu yıl Cannes’ın Belirli Bir Bakış bölümünde gösterildi. Yönetmen Kristoffer Borgli filmin yakın çevresinde yaptığı gözlemlerden ve gittikçe yaygınlaşan, acının romantize edilmesi hastalığından yola çıktığını vurguluyor.
A contemporary artist, Thomas’ work gradually attracts more attention, a situation that triggers his girlfriend Signe, who works at a café, adamant in directing that attention to herself. In her quest, she takes medicine that actually make her sick; nevertheless, she does not mind the adverse reactions her body produces. Eventually, when Signe becomes the center of attention, Thomas never misses an opportunity to compete with her. Both subtly and crassly mocking self-absorbed people, Sick of Myself was screened within the Un certain regard section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Director Kristoffer Borgli underlines that the story of the film “arose from a bunch of little observations,” an ephemeral tendency, a general romanticization of suffering that recently emerged.
